Go Pro Hero 4 Predictions | The Rumors are true!

March 1, 2014

The GoPro Hero 4 will be sporting the brand new, shiny Amarella A999 Chip. This is exciting news as this chip is capable of capturing 4k 30p imagery and hopefully do it reliably : )

So, let’s break down what I believe this camera will be able to do.

  • Since the GoPro Hero 4 will have a 4k ULTRA HD H.264 Encoder, it will be able to suck in 4k imagery without a problem. The internet is saturated with rumors but I’m calling it. The Hero4 will be the first action cam on the planet to shoot some pretty solid 4k imagery. Will it be a RED CAMERA? No, will it be able to cut well with RED footage? Yes. Downrezzed 4k to 1080p for final YouTube output will be nothing short of gorgeous. (Even with YouTubes compression grossness)
  • The GoPro Hero 4 will is going to be all about frame rates galore. No it won’t be a phantom shooting 1000′s of frames per second but if we can get 1080p at 120 fps, I’ll be a happy camper! Use twixtor on that and you’ll be able to do some faux phantom frame rates, easy! Not to mention the $100,000 you’ll save in the process! 720p at 240fps! BRING IT!
  • The GoPro Hero 4 will be able to shoot HDR images! Whaaaaaaaaaaat?! I’m guessing this will only apply to HD 1080p but damn, if this thing can pull off 13+ stops of dynamic range, we’ll be in business with this little powerhouse. If it shoots HDR in 4k, I’ll cry.
  • Image Stabilization?? I think Sony is leading the way right now with this technology but if the GoPro Hero 4 uses it’s Ambarella Chip to stabilize a 1080p image from a 4k image source, things could get VERY INTERESTING. Throw that thing on a light weight gimbal and you’ll have some rock solid 1080p action!

Stay tuned for more updates and rumors on the GoPro Hero 4!

See you at the movies!
